Author Mollie Hunt’s Cats

This story is from Mollie in Portland, Oregon.

Tyler came first.

We couldn’t let the senior tabby linger in the shelter a moment longer. He’d been out on the streets for some time, according to both his papers and his outward appearance. But he was sweet and gentle and outstanding, so home he came to live his best life. It’s been six years now, and though aging, he’s still going strong.

Clarence didn’t arrive until seven years later. Other cats had come and gone in between—Little, Ginchan, Blaze, and Jaimz.

Since I adopt older and special needs cats, their time with me is often far too short. When Clarence, a five-month-old kitten came along, he was a keeper.

Clarence underwent hip surgery and back leg amputation. Today he is an active tri-paw.

Clarence began as a foster while recovering from hip surgery and back leg amputation. We bonded, and that was that, a “foster success”! He and Tyler, now a super senior, got on well enough, basically by not interacting at all. I found it a bit sad to see them living alone together.

author Mollie Hunt's cat friends Melinko
Mollie "inherited" sweet Melinko from her granddaughter.

Then my granddaughter moved to the country where cats would be in danger from predators. She asked me to take Melinko, her stocky gray tabby boy. Suddenly I had three male cats! But Melinko was a friendly four-year old who enjoyed playing with Clarence and left Tyler alone.

And what are some cute and funny things that the cats do?

A cute thing that Melinko does is play with his tail.

Funny Clarence raises a paw like a Maneki Niko when he wants treats.

And Tyler… he sleeps sitting up.
