Meet the Cats of Horror Author Priscilla Bettis

This story is from  horror author Priscilla Bettis in Texas.

The first photo is my mama cat. My friend found her snooping around a dumpster. She was thin and full of fleas. My husband and I agreed to give the poor cat a home. It was October, and she’s a black cat, so the name Wednesday Addams seemed appropriate. Then we found out Wednesday was pregnant. (Spay and neuter your cats, people!)

We reached out to acquaintances, coworkers, an entire swim team even, but nobody wanted any of her kittens, and we ended up with four black cats. Her kittens are Pugsley Addams, Thing 1, and Thing 2.

I am a horror author, so you’d think having black cats in the house would be an inspiration, but they are surprisingly independent, preferring to take over the couch rather than hover around my keyboard or snuggle on my lap as I write.

One time, however, in the middle of drafting a ghost story, one of the Things sat in front of a closet. (I don’t know which Thing because we can’t tell the Things apart!) He just sat there, staring at the closed closet door. Then he hissed and dashed off. Crickets sometimes get in the house, so I’m saying it was a cricket… yeah, let’s go with a cricket!
