Thanks for pointing all of this out Ginger! A few other things to consider if you have your heart set on a pedigreed cat or dog:
1. Learn everything you can about the breed to be sure it is the right one for you.
2. Does the breeder check your references before selling to you.
3. Check the breeder’s references (veterinarian, groomer, neighbors)
4. Ask to see the mother and father of the pet.
5. Consider adopting a retired show cat or retired breeder instead of a kitten.

Given the large number of unhoused and feral cats and dogs, all puppy and cat mills should be banned immediately. No one should be making a living breeding and selling animals this way.

I don’t understand how people who run cat and dog mills can allow their animals to live in such conditions. I’d like to see the people who do this get stuck in a cage that they can barely move in and see what it’s like!
